War Widows Get Online

Due to the success of our War Widows InTouch and War Widows Connected projects, we have been granted funding from the Veterans’ Foundation to continue this work into next year and get more of our members online. We will also continue to build the online network and community of War Widows to try and reach as many of our members as possible.

This project started in October 2024 and is due to finish in September 2025.

PROJECT UPDATES

w/c 20th October: Final reporting writing is underway to report back to our fabulous funders and due to the project underspend, training will continue for all participants to the end of December 2025 – we are even supporting one to get broadband and wifi in her house – she has decided life will never be the same now she can use an iPad and send emails 🙂

w/c 15th September: Training continues with an exceptionally engaged group of members – one has intimated they would like to look at online banking – this is HUGE!!

w/c 18th August: We let our participants know that due to a project underspend, we could extend training to end of December and they were over the moon. One of our members sent their first ever email and was beside herself with excitement 🙂

w/c 28th July: We facilitated 2 members setting up family groups on WhatsApp and another get organised and sorted out to do her first Zoom. Over 30 hours training this month – they really are going for it as we come close to project end.

w/c 23rd June: The M&S website likely took a pounding as it went back up this month and one lady is obsessed with it. Another has discovered the ASDA website…they are in a whole new world.

w/c 26th May: Lots more training shenanigans again this month with some folks moving onto their 10th & 11th sessions. Such a committed and engaged group which is wonderful. PS the mic icon is now ‘sausage in a glass’, just so you know! 🙂

w/c 28th April: So much training has taken place this month with our lovely members making full benefit of all the time being offered to them.

w/c 31st March: Oodles more training sessions are booked in and some of our participants are moving on to their 4th session – they are going great guns 🙂

w/c 3rd March: All iPads have been received by our participants, evaluation forms are coming in and our first training sessions are set up for next week.

w/c 17th February: iPads have arrived! We are doing things a bit differently this time and have sessions booked in with all participants to talk through things as their individual devices are being set up. iPads should all be configured and should be with their new owners by the end of next week! Then the training begins – very exciting 🙂

w/c 27th January: Applications have closed and all those who applied have been contacted to discuss their application and iPad quotes have been sourced.

w/c 16th December: Application forms were sent out hard copy to members without email. Online versions of the form were emailed to all with an email address and added to the members area.

w/c 25th November: Trustees are checking over the application form and once they have signed off, doormats and inboxes will be getting smashed with this fabulous offer to members 🙂

w/c 21st October: work has started and hard copy and online application forms have been created, a project logo and email addresses have been set up and an article has been written for Courage, our magazine.
