Soldiering On Awards 2024 (16 October) – Deputy Jack steps in

The Chair and Secretary ran away to London yesterday to the Park Plaza on Westminster Bridge so Jack stepped up to keep things ticking over while they were gone. And yes, he did do a better job! And yes, he is better looking!

A very generous supporter had sponsored a table for us and the RAF Widows’ Association, Army Widows’ Association and Royal Navy Royal Marines Widows’ Association at the #SoldieringOnAwards in London. What a night with amazing people.

Fabulous entertainment was provided by the RAF Regiment Band, Cadet Pipe Major Harry Gordon, Christina Johnston, and StringFever. And the chap at our table in the photos was none other than The Magic Marine of BGT fame! No, we didn’t see or work out how he did it! But we were all gobsmacked!!

One of the winners was  former Gurkha Major Hari Budha Magar MBE who lost both legs above the knee after he stepped on an IED in Afghanistan. He won the Inspiration Award and was surprised by a Khukuri dance from the Gurkha regiment.

So many amazing nominees – all would have been worthy winners. Listening to all their stories made for a great night with Jeremy Vine hosting. And lots of networking afterwards, including time to chat informally with Al Carns, the new Minister for People and Veterans in the MOD.

Thank you to everyone involved in the event – what a lot of hard work – and for inviting us to share the most wonderful evening. We are so grateful.
