Protecting Older Residents from Doorstep Scams

Older people continue to be among the most frequent targets of doorstep scammers, rogue traders and nuisance cold callers.

Research from Age UK suggests that uninvited callers cost victims an average of £171 per incident, while scammers successfully target older people across England and Wales every few minutes. As a result, millions of people over 50 now feel anxious about answering their own front doors.

To help tackle this problem, Able Community Care, established in 1980, provides free “Do Not Knock” door stickers for older people who would prefer not to receive uninvited callers.

Last month alone, we distributed more than 1,000 stickers, and since launching the initiative in 2019, over 300,000 stickers have been requested by households throughout the UK.

If you know an older relative, neighbour, friend or client who would benefit from one, simply email info@ablecommunitycare.com and tell us how many you would like.

The stickers are completely free of charge.

We do not contact recipients again, and addresses are never passed to third parties.

Able Community Care, a Norfolk family company, has been providing live-in care support across the UK, including the offshore islands, for 46 years
