The form which ladies will have to fill in to be able to apply for the ex gratis payment is now complete and is just waiting to be signed off by the Minister.
Those who have already registered with Veterans UK will be sent the form automatically along with some helpful notes. Those who have not yet registered, I urge you to do so as soon as possible. 186 ladies are registered so far but they are saying that this only half the number they think will be eligible.
The MOD is meant to be running a national campaign alerting those who are not members of any military widows association about the payment. I have reminded them that this was agreed to in the early stages of negotiations as we are well aware that many do not want to join anything to do with the military after the death of their partner. If you know of anyone in these circumstances then please do make them aware of this payment to which they may be entitled.
