On Friday (22nd April), Kate Thomas attended the dawn service for ANZAC Day.

Kate’s words:

“It was a moving service at Glasgow Western Necropolis yesterday morning for the 5am dawn ANZAC and Gallipoli service. More people attended than last year, and this was second commemoration here, organised by the CWGC.

The event was split between a short service at the site you see in the photograph which is Australian graves and a few hundred yards away by the New Zealand graves. It was not appropriate to take photos there, but a New Zealand man of Maori descent said a traditional prayer, talked of what the day meant for him and then sang a short song. We were all transfixed by this.

I am always honoured to represent the WWA at these events and remind people of the impact of those left behind after such appalling losses.”
